Cornell Engineering interns gain valuable experience at IT Cadre

Ashburn, VA—IT Cadre collaborated with Cornell University’s College of Engineering to hire four undergraduate interns for the summer. The IT Cadre summer intern program was instituted to attract high caliber candidates for future employment at IT Cadre.

“Cornell’s College of Engineering is one of the top 10 engineering schools in the country,” said Nader Mehravari M.S. ’80 EE, Ph.D. ’82, executive vice president of IT Cadre’s Resiliency Practice. As an alumni and an adjunct faculty member at the college’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mehravari is very familiar with its quality of education and students, “Cornell Engineering students are trained in the design, development, and application of advanced, state-of-the-art technology.” 

Ruwan Pallegedara, a sophomore information science student, developed mobile interfaces to IT Cadre’s successful home healthcare software solution. “From the very first day, IT Cadre has kept me busy working on real problems and developing solutions.”

Jiho Chang, a junior majoring in computer science, and John Vollrath, a sophomore electrical and computer engineering major, built interfaces between IT Cadre’s home healthcare product to various software products doctors use to manage their office allowing easy communication between home health specialists and their patients’ doctors. “At IT Cadre I got the opportunity to present my work to management and other developers and get immediate feedback,” said Chang. 

Vollrath added, “Working with a company of this size, we interacted with everyone from the developers and testers to senior management and the president of the company. We learned a lot and we were able to contribute. The experience was invaluable.”

ECE senior Pouria Pezeshkian honed his systems engineering skills by contributing to the development of an overall vision and detailed process flow for implementing an Accountable Care Organization, a healthcare delivery model designed to pool provider resources to improve the quality of healthcare services while reducing expenses and costs to patients.

For IT Cadre, the Cornell Engineering partnership has been a win-win situation for both sides. Mehravari explained, “IT Cadre’s unique approach to understanding complex problems and building solutions is first-rate. Cornell Engineering students get experience with this approach and IT Cadre receives top-notch students for nine weeks and exposure to one of the best engineering universities in the country”
