ECE, CS M.Eng. Students win in Big Red Hacks

The event is Cornell University’s collegiate hackathon. Across three days, from October 19-21, 2018 students from across the country gathered in Cornell’s Physical Science Building to build innovative projects, meet amazing people, and win prizes from sponsors. The team won The Johnny B. Goode Hack To The Future Prize, awarded for the hack that best embodies the theme of this year's hackathon, #HackToTheFuture. Three new Tisch University Professors named

The Tisch University Professorships, one of Cornell’s highest faculty honors, were created in 2008 by Andrew H. Tisch ’71 and Ann Rubenstein Tisch to help attract and retain prominent scholars and midcareer faculty. 22 student entrepreneurs join W.E. Cornell

Cornell’s new entrepreneurship program, W.E. (women entrepreneurs) Cornell, recently announced its first cohort of students for the 2018-19 academic year. W.E. Cornell was created by Andrea Ippolito ’06, M.Eng. ’07, executive director of Cornell’s engineering management program and eLab instructor, to address persistent underrepresentation of women entrepreneurs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and empower more women to found and lead tech startups. Air Force Young Investigator Award funds study of waves, topology

Francesco Monticone, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, will help push the scientific boundaries of topological systems – and help imagine new metamaterials with exotic properties, such as the ability to bend light and other electromagnetic waves – with a three-year, $450,000 Young Investigator Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Emeritus Professor Zygmunt J. Haas recently delivered a talk at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden as part of the ACCESS Distinguished Lecture Series. The invited lecture, “Reconfigurable Distributed MIMO for Physical-layer Security in Mobile Networks,” was presented on September 13, 2018.
