Director of Electrical and Computer Engineering Search

In fall 2007 the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering began a search for a new Director. Internal and external candidates are being sought. The School of ECE and the College of Engineering at Cornell embrace diversity and seek candidates who will create a climate that attracts and supports faculty, staff, and students of all races, nationalities and genders. We strongly encourage women and underrepresented minorities to apply. Cornell University seeks to meet the needs of dual career couples, has a Dual Career Program, and is a member of the Upstate New York Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC), a collaborative group of institutions that assists with dual career searches. Visit the Upstate New York HERC web site to see positions available in higher education in the upstate New York area.

Search Updates: Regular search updates will be distributed via email to faculty, alumni, and staff. We will also post the updates on this web site (see below).

About the Search Process

The search for the Director of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), which will include consideration of both internal and external candidates, commenced in September 2007. The Search Committee, chaired by Professor Rick Johnson, consists of:

Rick Johnson, Chair
Sheila Hemami
Rajit Manohar
Charles Seyler
Sandip Tiwari
Charles Van Loan (Former Chair of Computer Science)

The search process will include both open and confidential information and stages:

  • In the beginning phase of the search the characteristics sought in a new Director will be formulated and a diverse pool of potential candidates will be developed. This phase will be relatively open.
  • As the search progresses to the second phase, where applicants are qualified and their credentials assessed, the Search Committee's work will be strictly confidential. Preliminary interviews with the first round candidates will also be closed.
  • After the Search Committee narrows the pool to the public candidates who will be invited to interview on campus, the process will again be open.
  • The final stages of the search will be confidential as the Search Committee selects a short list of candidates to be presented to the Dean, who will make a final decision.

Periodic updates of the search progress will be posted on the ECE Director Search web page. Throughout the search process, nominations, comments, feedback, and questions should be sent to ECEDirectorSearch@cornell.edu.
