Imaging and Information Processing

We perform leading-edge research in sensing, processing, and analysis of spatial, temporal, light-field, and 3-D visual data that lead to the transfer of knowledge or aesthetics.  This includes the acquisition of data or signals that are assembled to form an image, the direct capture of images with cameras or detectors, the presentation of photographs and paintings, including the psycho-physical aspects of how humans perceive, interpret and are by images, the extraction of quantitative measurements from images, and computer assisted diagnosis from medical images.  We have significant expertise in related areas of computer vision, image sensing and processing, pattern recognition, machine learning, and optics.  Our research has broad applications in biomedical imaging, robotics, inspection, and many activities in science and engineering where imaging is becoming ubiquitous with scientific observation.
