Shaygan Kheradpir is the former Chief Executive Officer and member of the board of directors at Juniper Networks. Before joining Juniper in January 2014, he served most recently as Chief Operations and Technology Officer at Barclays PLC and before that as Chief Information and Technical Officer at Verizon Communications. Kheradpir and his team are focused on delivering groundbreaking silicon, systems and software that enable customers to build the best networks on the planet.
As Chief Operations and Technology Officer at Barclays, Kheradpir oversaw the operations and systems in delivery of products and services to customers and clients around the world, as well as the bank’s technology agenda. His responsibilities included all bank operations in retail, cards, corporate, wealth and investment banking across 50 countries, with a focus on transforming Barclays’ cost structure and driving product innovation. He led the transformation work stream of operational effectiveness and efficiency through technological innovation that matters to customers, 21st century industrialization via automation and infrastructure rightsizing – all of which are expected to save nearly $4.5 billion of costs in 2015. Prior to his role as Chief Operations and Technology Officer, Kheradpir was Chief Operating Officer of Barclays’ global retail business bank, where he was a catalyst for cultural change as well as the execution of an operational and innovation agenda that transformed the retail banking experience.
Before joining Barclays, Kheradpir was Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Technical Officer at Verizon Communications. In this role he was responsible for information technology initiatives of all of Verizon’s business units, including the development and implementation of national platforms for Verizon’s all-fiber network (FiOS), arguably one of the largest infrastructure programs in U.S. history. Kheradpir was an original member of the management team when Verizon was created, and through a decade of leadership, achieved breakthrough results for the company that helped transition Verizon from a regional telephone company to a broadband, media and global communications leader of the 21st century.
Kheradpir began his communications career with GTE in 1987. During his tenure, he rebuilt GTE’s core systems based on modern computer science, driving operational excellence with significantly improved cost structure for the company.
Kheradpir was a member of the National Institute of Standards & Technology VCAT (Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology), an adjunct professor of electrical engineering at Northeastern University, and holds several patents. He was named to CIO Magazine’s Hall of Fame in 2007. Kheradpir holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University.
