ECE Innovation Award winners announced

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Innovation Award Competition challenges students to design and develop an innovative technology based on electrical and computer engineering, and to demonstrate the potential of the idea to address a practical business and/or social challenge. Each semester ECE awards $10,000 each to two winning teams.

The Spring 2014 winners are
1.      PULSO
Pulso is a hand-mounted device that could help millions of visually impaired individuals "see" by feeling their way around. It is a microcontroller-based assistive device that uses a combination of ultrasonic and infrared sensors to provide navigational guidance and obstacle detection via haptic feedback.

2.      SAUND
saund is a brain-computer-interface technology platform company. Our goal is to redefine the way users interact with technology. Getting rid of buttons, wires, and screens, we are designing a platform that encourages users to be more present and aware of their surroundings and selves. Our first product is a visualization tool for elite triathletes. Using best-practice motor-imagery, we are building a tool that enhances physical athletic performance and mental stamina with brain-computer-interface capabilities.
