Recent ECE Ph.D. Graduate Enrique Mallada spoke at conference as a "bright mind"
Enrique Mallada was invited to give a talk in the "bright mind" session at the KAUST-NSF Conference on Electronic Materials, Devices and Systems for a sustainable future. This session was aimed for "bright young individuals who would like to pursue a career in academia and establish an original and independent research program". The conference was held in King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) from Feb 8th to Feb 10th.
Enrique gave a talk on "Distributed Frequency-Preserving Optimal Load Control in Smart Grids". It originated from his Cornell Ph.D. thesis "Distributed Network Synchronization: The Internet and Electric Power Grids", which studied the fundamentals of distributed synchronization on networked systems and applies these insights to practical problems in information networks and power grids. The first part of his thesis has already been published in Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical, volume 50, issue 46. It was also featured on the cover of that issue.
Enrique Mallada obtained his Ph.D. in January 2014. During his time at Cornell, he was a member of the Networks group led by Prof. Kevin Tang.
Enrique won a prestigious Caltech CMI Postdoctoral Fellowship last year, which has "no strings attached" and therefore allows him to freely work on problems that interest him for two years.
