Book Talk: Cellular Convergence and the Death of Privacy
Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 4:30 p.m.
Olin Library, Room 106G

Join us for a Chats in the Stacks book talk with Stephen B. Wicker, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Cornell, and faculty member of the graduate fields of information science and computer science.

Cellular convergence, the growing trend for all forms of electronic communication to consolidate onto the cellular handset, has dramatically increased the impact of cellular surveillance. In his book, published by Oxford University Press (September, 2013), Stephen Wicker explores this unprecedented threat to privacy from multiple perspectives, while explaining how cellular is changing the face of American politics and economics.

Wicker is the author of six books, holds a number of patents, and has received four Cornell teaching awards. He is the Cornell Principal Investigator for the TRUST Science and Technology Center—a National Science Foundation center dedicated to the development of technologies for securing the nation’s critical infrastructure.

The event is free and open to all. Light refreshments will be available throughout the event, and books will be available for purchase and signing.
