Ph.D.

Overview

The Ph.D. degree program at Cornell ECE prepares students to be future leaders in research, development, and teaching through rigorous course work and cutting-edge research. Our program is interdisciplinary, which enables a student to take advantage of the wide range of research opportunities on campus, from physics to bioscience, from mathematics to economics. Our program offers the flexibility that allows a student, in consultation with his or her Advisor and Special Committee, to determine an individualized curriculum.

Virtually all Ph.D. students receive financial support in the form of Fellowships, Research Assistantships, and Teaching Assistantships throughout their Ph.D. program. The financial aid covers tuition, stipend, and health insurance.

Applications are accepted for Fall admission only. Applicants should make sure that all forms and supporting documents, including college transcripts, test scores, and letters of recommendation, are submitted and received no later than December 15th. Students whose application materials remain incomplete after the December 15th deadline may not be considered eligible for admission.

The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test is required for the PhD program; submission of the GRE subject test results is optional. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Please be sure to reference the Cornell Graduate School's English Language Proficiency page before you submit your application.

Please be aware that the submission of either GRE or TOEFL test scores is only valid for the admissions cycle you are specifically applying for. Cornell does not carry over scores from previous years. If you had made arrangements with ETS to have test scores submitted for a previous year, you will have to have them submitted again for the admissions cycle that you are specifically applying for and pay the full cost.

Please complete an application through the Graduate School Admissions.
