Current MS-PhD Student FAQs
Things to do BEFORE you Graduate and leave Cornell
1. What information should I submit to the Manager of Student Services?
You will need to submit a forwarding mailing address to Scott Coldren, the ECE Manager of Student Services. All mail that will be received after you have left will be forwarded to the address that you provide.
2. What information should I submit to the Human Resources/Accounting Office?
The student should contact Susan Ferrara in the ECE Human Resources/Accounting Office once they know the date they will be leaving the ECE Department. Her office is located in 230 Phillips Hall, or she can be reached by phone at 255-5084 or by email at ferrar@ece.cornell.edu. By providing this information, it will ensure that you will not receive additional paychecks after you leave and that you will not be required to pay this money back to the ECE Department.
3. What form should I submit to the Graduate School?
You are required to obtain a Leave of Absence/Withdrawal form (R6) which can either be downloaded from the Graduate School’s web site here, or can be found in hard copy form in the ECE Student Services Office located in 223 Phillips Hall. You must fill out the top portion of the form and then obtain the signatures of your Advisor and all of your Special Committee Members. The signature of the ECE Director of Graduate Studies is also required in order for the form to be complete. If you do not submit a completed Withdrawal form prior to leaving Cornell, you may continue to receive a Bursar Bill for tuition charges and be expected to pay them.
4. Where do I submit my completed Withdrawal form?
You will need to submit your completed Withdrawal form to the Student Services Office in the Graduate School, located in 143 Caldwell Hall. Submit the form to Barbara Edinger, who is the Graduate Student Service Representative for the field of ECE. She can be contacted at bae2@Cornell.edu or 255-5817.
5. What should I do with my office and lab keys?
You should submit all keys that have been issued to you through the ECE Department for your office and lab to Patty Gonyea, the ECE Building Coordinator before you leave campus for good. Her office is located in 235 Phillips Hall. If this is not done, your Bursar Account will be charged for the replacement of each key not returned.
