ECE Masters/PhD Program
Overview
The MS/PhD degree program at Cornell ECE prepares students to be future leaders in research, development, and teaching through rigorous course work and cutting-edge research. Our program is interdisciplinary, which enables a student to take advantage of the wide range of research opportunities on campus, from physics to bioscience, from mathematics to economics. Our program offers the flexibility that allows a student, in consultation with her or his Special Committee, to determine an individualized curriculum.
Virtually all MS/PhD students receive financial support in the form of Fellowships, Research Assistantships, and Teaching Assistantships throughout their PhD program. The financial aid covers tuition, stipend, and health insurance.
Applications are accepted for Fall admission.
Applicants should make sure that all forms and supporting documents, including college transcripts, test scores, and letters of recommendation, are submitted before January 15. Students whose applications are received after this date may not be eligible for financial aid.
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test is required for the MS/PhD program; submission of the GRE subject test results is optional. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Those who have studied for at least two years at a university in an English-speaking country, or who have received an undergraduate degree from such a university, are exempt from the TOEFL requirement.
Please complete an application through the Graduate School Admissions.

“I chose Cornell because it offers the area of which I am interested in. I also like the fact that faculty is very supportive, willing to talk and helping students. The other plus side to Cornell is its diversity outside engineering; even though I am a Ph. D student in electrical engineering, I still have the chance to interact with many people from other disciplines to broaden my view and perspective on various issues.”
